Actress Aubrey Plaza has spoken out for the first time about the heartbreaking death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, who passed away at 47 on January 3. She and the Baena and Stern family shared a statement with Fox News Digital on January 6, three days after his passing.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” the statement read. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Baena, known for directing films such as “Life After Beth” and “The Little Hours,” was not only Plaza’s husband but also a frequent collaborator. His sudden passing has deeply affected his family and the film community.

The tragedy came just days before the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where the 40-year-old actress had been scheduled to appear as a presenter alongside stars like Andrew Garfield, Anya Taylor-Joy, Demi Moore, and Colin Farrell.

In light of Baena’s death, Plaza chose to step away from the event. Her absence was deeply felt, and during the ceremony, “The Brutalist” director Brady Corbet, who won Best Director, made a heartfelt acknowledgment.
